We have added another black cartridge for the Kyocera ECOSYS desktop class: the TK-3400, a compatible toner cartridge for the Kyocera ECOSYS MA4500fx, MA4500x and PA4500x. It is filled with 450 g of toner and is supplied as a single black cartridge — there is no colour version of this model.

The drum is part of the cartridge

Unlike the separate drum and toner designs in most A3 copiers, the TK-3400 is a drum-integrated cartridge: the imaging unit is built into the body and is renewed every time the toner is replaced. That has two practical consequences for buyers. Image faults that would otherwise mean ordering a separate drum unit disappear when you change the cartridge, and the running cost is easier to explain to an end user because there is only one part number to quote. It also means print quality at the end of a cartridge's life should look the same as at the start, rather than fading while the drum wears.

Chip and firmware

Every cartridge is supplied with a chip, so the machine recognises it and reports the toner level as normal. Kyocera has continued to release firmware updates through 2026 that tighten cartridge authentication, so if you manage a fleet it is worth telling us the firmware version when you order — we will match the chip generation to it rather than shipping whatever is on the shelf. The cartridges are filled with Mitsubishi toner powder for clean solids and no background, and the body is brand new rather than a refilled original.

Where it fits

The MA4500/PA4500 class is a 40 to 45 ppm A4 desktop machine that is sold in large volumes into small and mid-sized offices, so demand is driven by replacement cycles rather than by projects. Buyers in this segment compare on cost per page and on how often they have to touch the machine, which is why a full 450 g fill and a working chip matter more than a small difference in unit price.
